Undiscovered is a new podcast about the left turns and lucky breaks that make science REALLY happen.
"Science Friday's first not-Science-Friday offering is one you do not want to miss ... Annie Minoff and Elah Feder actually take their listeners to some weird and wonderful places."
— Popular Science, "Best Science Podcasts"
"Hosts Elah Feder and Annie Minoff delve into the backstories that explain how scientific discoveries really get made. They look at the "left turns and lucky breaks" that accompany science research, examining how weird encounters push discoveries forward and examining the strange stories that accompany what we consider "science.".... [S]o far, it's a delight. And season two starts later this year, so we'll be looking out for that.

— Business Insider, "15 of the best science podcasts that will make you smarter"
"Annie Minoff and Elah Feder, in a spin-off of the science news podcast Science Friday, go in-depth on scientific history and controversies in a compelling fashion that’s equal parts funny and serious."
— UpRoxx, "The Best Science Podcasts To Listen To Right Now"
Annie Minoff is co-host and producer of Undiscovered. She also plays the banjo.
Prior to Undiscovered, Annie produced stories about science and the arts for Science Friday. (Like this story, about guitar playing robots, and this one, where astronauts review “Gravity” à la Siskel and Ebert.)
Her first run-in with radio was as an undergrad at Columbia University, where she covered the New York arts scene for the universe’s best radio station, WKCR-FM (“Sit Back and Dig the Shellac”). She couldn’t major in radio, so she earned a B.A. in American Studies.
Since then, her work has been heard on Studio 360, How Sound, and PRX’s Remix. She’s also been an assistant producer for the world’s only rock ‘n’ roll talk show, WBEZ’s “Sound Opinions,” where she had the honor of meeting the Jesus of Cool, Nick Lowe.
Elah Feder is co-host and producer of Undiscovered. She’s also Science Friday’s resident Canadian.
She first got into podcasts in 2007 when she was a grad student studying evolutionary biology at the University of Toronto. Working late nights in the lab, sorting fruit flies under a microscope, Elah would listen to a lot of Gwen Stefani. After some noise complaints, she phased out the beats, got hooked on radio and podcasts, and has never been the same.
For five years she co-hosted and produced I Like You, a podcast about love and like. She’s also produced segments for CBC Radio shows like Spark, The Current, and The Sunday Edition, and has contributed to publications like The Guardian, The LA Times, and Xtra, Canada’s LGBT newspaper. After completing her master's at Columbia's Graduate School of Journalism, Elah investigated the oil and gas industry as a fellow at the school's Energy & Environment Reporting Project.
Christopher Intagliata produces and edits Undiscovered. He's also Science Friday’s senior producer, which means he’s chief cheerleader for all the radio and podcast projects here. He helps to select and shape stories, or put them to a gentle death if necessary.
Daniel Peterschmidt composed original background music for Undiscovered and designed/coded the show's website (yes, this one!) When he's not working on Undiscovered, he serves as a digital producer for Science Friday, where he writes, edits, designs, and codes for different projects. You can find more of his music here.
Brandon Echter coordinates the marketing and design for Undiscovered. He is Science Friday's digital managing editor. He loves space, sloths, and cephalopods, and his aesthetic is “cultivated schlub.”
Lauren Young helps write and copy-edit Undiscovered's episode pages. She's also a web producer for Science Friday, where she crafts pre- and post-show content for the site so that listeners can get their fill of science stories throughout the week.
Christian Skotte organized the podcast competition that developed Undiscovered. He manages audience growth for Undiscovered and Science Friday. And he helps make sure enough money rolls in to keep Undiscovered going. He measures his polyhedral dice collection in pounds.
Danielle Dana is the Executive Director of Science Friday, so she has a hand in all SciFri projects. She secured the initial funding that helped make Undiscovered happen, and she makes sure everyone is on the same page and marching to the same drummer. She's a fan of narwhals and the San Francisco Giants.
Rachel Bouton is always telling Annie and Elah to do all sorts of strange things like buzz their lips and find their light. She is in charge of live events for Undiscovered and occasionally serves as Annie and Elah’s vocal coach. She is also the Events And Office Manager for Science Friday.
Claire Merchlinsky is an illustrator and artist based in Brooklyn, NY. She designed oringal art for all of Undiscovered's episodes. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Bitch Magazine, The New Republic, The Village Voice, and NPR.
Michelle Harris is a fact checker for Undiscovered. She also fact checks for Gimlet's Science Vs and Radiolab.
